What is "Normal?"
Tuesday, 11 October 2011 10:17
Life Issues

We all have our ideas of what “normal” looks like and yet there seems to be a difference of opinion among ourselves regarding the correct definition of “normal.”  Our idea of what “normal” is comes from our life; our family, our experiences, and what we have learned or been taught.

Since that is what defines “normal” for each of us, it is understandable that there are different opinions regarding what “normal” looks like.  We struggle to accept other peoples definition of “normal“ because if they are right then that would imply that we are wrong.  What if we are both “right” or there is no “right” or “wrong” way to define “normal?”  What if we just have different perspectives of what “normal” looks like?  How would that impact our relationships with each other?   I think the idea of “right” and “wrong” gets in the way of understanding each other and cooperation among ourselves.  If we can learn to accept these differences as simply differences and leave the idea of “right” and “wrong” behind we can improve the relationships we have with each other and greatly reduce the stress of life that we experience.
